Shoprite opens world class supermarket in Ikeja City Mall, Lagos state

Shoprite, the largest supermarket group on the African continent, is set to open a new world-class supermarket in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos state by December 14, 2011.

The Ikeja City Mall which commenced construction in May 2010, will feature the first and only cinema theatre in Ikeja, a 5-screen Silverbird Cinemas and Shoprite Supermarket.  It will include specialist facilities for department stores, banks, cafés, bars, restaurants, hairdressing / beauty salon, etc.

The Shoprite group is firmly entrenched as the largest food retailer in Africa, with operations now comprising of 1,505 stores in 16 countries with over 91,000 employees, of which more than 10,000 work in stores outside of South Africa.

The Shoprite Group, which already operates two Shoprite supermarkets in the Nigerian city of Lagos(Lekki and Surulere) – the country’s economic and financial capital, is excited about the prospect of its continuous development and expansion in Nigeria, and therefore has a great deal of confidence in the future growth of this country.

In Nigeria, as in all the countries and communities in which it trades, the Shoprite Group aims to assist in creating jobs and by contributing to the economic growth of this country, especially through its support of the local manufacturing and agricultural industries.
